Four (4) persons including two (2) children have died in a gory head-on collision accident at Somanya in the Eastern Region.
The accident occurred Saturday at about 2:40pm in an area called Nartey right opposite the University of Environment and Sustainable Development stretch of Somanya to Accra road.
The accident involved two speeding vehicles -an Opel Astra taxi cab with registration number AS 2061-12 and a Green Hyundai H-100 mini bus with registration Number GW 5954-14 which collided head-on killing the four of the occupants while 20 others injured.
According to the Somanya Police, the Opel taxi cab was from Accra towards Somanya with eight (8) passengers onboard including children while the Hyundai H-100 minibus was speeding from the opposite direction of Somanya towards Accra with thirteen (13) passengers including children on board.
But on reaching the University portion of the road, the taxi cab allegedly veered off its lane and collided with the Hyundai H-100 minibus.
All passengers onboard both vehicles sustained various degrees of injuries hence rushed to Atua Government hospital for medical treatment however four (4) passengers identified as Patience Paddy, 31, Kadmiel Kota, 9, Shanel Awudu, 4, and Marvin Oyanor, 4, were pronounced dead on arrival.
Twenty (20) injured persons including children were still on admission receiving treatment.
The Acting Public Relations Officer of the Eastern Regional Police Command, Sargeant Francis Gomado confirmed the accident to mybryfmonline.com stating that investigation has commenced.
The accident at Somanya comes six days after a similar fatal accident involving an articulated truck that crashed two buses led to the death of some 14 passengers at Kyekyewere on the Accra to Kumasi Highway.
