Goat and sheep thieves being chased by residents of Asuboi in the Eastern Region have crushed a driver’s mate to death.
The body of the deceased identified as Fuseini Abdul Aziz has been deposited at the Suhum Government Hospital Morgue.
The incident occurred on October 6, 2020, at about 4:40pm.
According to the Zakaria Salifu, a 38-year-old driver, he was in charge of a Burkinabe Man Diesel Trailer truck with Head No. 11 GJ 1031 and trailer NO. 11-JM-3256-BF with his driver’s mate on board loaded with Rose Woods traveling from Bole towards Tema.
However, on reaching a section of the road at Kyekyewere near Teacher Mante whilst ascending a slope, his vehicle stopped unexpectedly in the middle of the road due to mechanical fault.
He placed a warning triangle at both the front and rear of the truck to signal other road users.
He further directed his driver’s mate to direct traffic in addition to avoiding an accident.
But in the course of that, a Toyota Camry with Registration number GR 1948- V alleged to have stolen livestock from Asuboi Township and was being chased by the town folks failed to slow down as a result knocked down and killed the driver’s mate on the spot.
The driver informed the police which they proceeded to the scene and found the body of the mate lying dead at the shoulder of the road.
According to the Acting Public Relations Officer of the Eastern Regional Command Sargeant Francis Gomado, twelve (12) goats and a sheep were found in the accident Total Camry car boot and the back seat with the vehicle extensively damaged.
He said the suspect rustlers on board the Toyota Camry bolted away.
