An alleged assassination attempt on the Member of Parliament for Tarkwa Nsuem was foiled yesterday.
Six (6) alleged assailants at 6:00pm Tuesday, December 1, 2020, blocked the road at Asuogyah Junction in an attempt to attack the campaign team when Hon. George Mireku Duker was returning from a campaign tour at Mile 5 in the Tarkwa-Nsuaem Constituency.
One of the suspects was however overpowered and apprehended. The rest managed to escape, according to a communication officer of the NPP, Nana Ansah Obofuor.
He alleged the suspect confessed that they were sent to assassinate Hon. George Mireku Duker.
The assailant is in Police Custody assisting further investigations.
One person was critically injured after family members of the Tarkwa-Nsuaem MP, George Mireku Duker came under attack in October this year.
Several persons were wounded in the attack.
Five candidates are contesting the incumbent Member of Parliament, Mr. George Mireku Duker of the New Patriotic Party (NPP). They are Mr. John Justice Abban, National Democratic Congress (NDC), and Madam Joy Jocelyn Andoh, an independent candidate, Mr. Seedorf Aseidu of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP), Madam Rashidatu Alhassan, Ghana Union Movement (GUM), and Mr. Jacob Cudjoe, People’s National Convention (PNC) are contesting the Tarkwa Nsueam Parliamentary Seat.
