The Obstetrics and Gynaecology Department of the Eastern Regional Hospital in Koforidua needs a facelift to be able to improve the delivery of quality healthcare to mothers and their newborn babies.
The hospital is a referral facility in the region hence the department one of the busiest in the hospital as hundreds of pregnant mothers frequent the wards for delivery and check-ups however the facility cannot accommodate many mothers and their newborn children while medical equipment is obsolete and wearing out.
“So our major problem is that we love a facelift, we will love that some person heart will be touched to come in and help us to lift the face of the department, change the bed especially the mattresses for our new mothers and their babies, we love baby cot to help the babies especially with the twin mothers just to make them comfortable and relaxed when they are on admission that’s our major problem,” Kathlyn Nyassingbe – Midwifery Officer also acting Deputy Matron at Obstetrics and Gynaecology Department of the hospital told Mybrytfmonline.com
Meanwhile, fifteen (15) babies were delivered on December 25th, at the Eastern Regional Hospital in Koforidua.
Many of the deliveries were done through cesarean section due to medical complications that disabled vaginal delivery thus threatened the lives of the babies and their mothers.
“On the 25th of December, we had a total of 15 newborn babies being delivered out of which 11 are males and 4 females. It was more of a busy day on the 25th because there were a lot of surgeries than the normal deliveries. We anticipated that it will be a very smooth and quiet day for us but it wasn’t like what we normally experience ” Kathlyn Nyassingbe – Midwifery Officer also acting Deputy Matron at Obstetrics and Gynaecology Department of the ERHK explained.
He said this when MTN Ghana Foundation donated Christmas hampers to newly born babies on Christmas day.
“It is something we look out for every year because we know that every Christmas day they do this for us, they come to the aid of the newly born babies and their mothers. We very grateful this time around for their kind gesture” She said.
