Immunization of Health workers with Covid-19 vaccine in Eastern Region ends today March 29, 2021.
The exercise which started on March 25, 2021, is part of the Covid-19 awareness creation exercise by the Ghana Health Service and its partners in 217 Districts across the country targeted at Health workers.
New Juaben Municipal Health Director Dr. Ekow Kaitoo said New Juaben South is among 33 Districts and Municipalities in Eastern Region selected for the exercise.
He said this will help boost immunity among the populace in the Municipality.
Health workers at the Eastern Region Hospital will take their turn today March 29, 2021.
According to the Municipal Health Directorate, the General public will be informed when the mass immunization for the entire region begins.
The government of Ghana in March this year rolled out a program to commence the mass vaccination of people living in some 43 epicenter-districts in the Greater Accra, Ashanti and Central regions against the COVID-19 pandemic.
Among eligible persons for the vaccination program includes healthcare workers, frontline security personnel, persons with underlying medical conditions, persons 60 years and above, and frontline members of the executive, legislature, and judiciary.
Ghana became the first country outside India to receive COVID-19 vaccine doses shipped via the COVAX Facility. COVAX shipped 600 000 doses of the AstraZeneca / Oxford vaccine, from the Serum Institute of India (SII) from Pune, India to Accra, Ghana, arriving on the morning of 24 February.
About 491 people have since been vaccinated.
