There is tension in Adeiso in West Akyem District in the Eastern Region following clashes between sand winners and Okyeman Environmental Taskforce.
According to the local Police, they received a distress call that a group of men had allegedly abducted one Osae Kwame at his village called Tank Akuraa near Adeiso.
Police personnel were quickly dispatched to the said location and found the victim handcuffed in a Nissan pick-up alleged to belong to Okyeman Task Force.
The victim was rescued but the suspects sped off from the scene.
Later, Police received another call was received from one Sam Atsu Forson, CEO of Summertide Company, that a group of men with vehicle some of them have Okyeman crest has attacked them at their Sand Winning pit at Obeng Yaw village, near Adeiso, amidst firing of guns and had arrested 5 of his workers and shot one person.
Whilst Police were proceeding to the scene, the suspects were met in a vehicle and signaled to stop but the drivers refused to stop.
They were given a hot chase but to no avail.
Later on, Okyeman Mponuahene, Barima Twum Tabriade appeared at the Adeiso Police station and later on followed by Okyeman Akwansrahene who had 3 tyres of his Jeep Patriot SUV with registration number GS 9835-19 blasted.
Preliminary investigations revealed that they and 3 others who reported at the station were part of the team who attacked the sand winners.
Angry youth massed up at the Police station demanding the release of the chiefs and other taskforce members.
The reinforcement team arrived from the Divisional Command.
A search in the Jeep Patriot SUV which belongs to Akwansrahene, Baffour Sarpong, contained one AK 47 assault rifle with 3 magazines and 7 Pump-action cartilages. The 5 suspects were whisked to Asamankese Divisional Headquarters.
The suspects are on inquiry bail whilst the victim is on admission for treatment.
