Members of Parliament on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress in Parliament have called on the Auditor-General to audit Mrs. Rebecca Akufo-Addo`s Non-Governmental Organization (Rebecca Foundation).
They are also requesting from the first to refund all money received from the state to support her foundation as she has returned the allowances she received since 2017.
This was said by Deputy Minority Leader, James Klutse Avedzi, on behalf of his colleagues at a press conference.
For transparency’s sake, he said the Auditor General will also “ascertain that there is sufficient money in her account so that the cheque that the has issued will not bounce.”
Established in January 2017, The Rebecca Foundation complements the efforts of government by undertaking the following; supporting and promoting initiatives that improve the economic status of women; enhancing literacy and learning skills in children; improving environmental health and sanitation by greening public spaces;

First Lady, Mrs. Rebecca Akufo-Addo has returned to the state, an amount of GH¢899,097.84 (Eight Hundred and Ninety-Nine Thousand and Ninety-Seven cedis, Eighty-Four pesewas), being the full refund of allowances paid her since 7th January 2017.
She issued a Consolidated Bank Ghana Limited cheque with the number 000002 for the amount.
The refund follows her rejection of proposed allocated salaries approved by Parliament, which has since generated controversy and engendered public debates over the propriety to consider salaries and other emoluments for presidential spouses in consonance with Article 71 officeholders.
