Two (2) agents of Qnet have been arrested by Adweso District Police Command in the Eastern Region for allegedly holding a 26-year-old hostage and defrauding him under pretense.
The suspects are Pafio Agordo, 20, and Wisdom Korda, 21.
One of the suspects Wisdom Korda lured the victim who was his friend to come to Koforidua to be employed in a company that imports goods for Ghc800 weekly salary.
Unknowingly, the company was Qnet which the agents held the victim hostage in a rented apartment at Two-Streams a suburb of Koforidua when he arrived for inquiries about the company.
According to the victim, the agents seized his phone and forced him to defraud his mother and Pastor an amount of Ghc900 and Ghc350 respectively which they took all the monies from him.
He lamented that the agents denied him food hence had to “eat raw gari without sugar nothing at all I eat it raw for since my detention there. Sometimes we go to people’s houses to steal unripe oranges to eat because the hunger is too much”
It took the intervention of the Victim’s family to report the incident to the police who set him free after arresting the Suspects.
Uncle to the victim, Prosper Tsormana wants the government to take a serious look into the operations of Qnet and facilitate a decision by the Attorney General to dissolve the company.
He said thousands of youth have been held hostage, defrauded, and being used to defraud many others in the name of network marketing.
Many Qnet Agents are operating in various parts of the Eastern region defrauding many youths mostly from other regions whereas those in the Eastern region are sent to Roger regions.
The agents include Burkinabes, Togolese, Nigerians, and Malians.
Few of the agents have been arrested and put before the court after their victims reported to the police.
