The Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Samuel A. Jinapor has revealed that the government will soon start an aggressive afforestation program to revive forest reserves in the country.
According to the Land Minster, the afforestation program will help sustain and restore the forest cover of Ghana.
He stated that the program will be done in collaboration with the central government.
During the meeting with officials from the three main agencies of the Ministry at the Western North Regional Coordinating Council, Mr. Jinapor urged for the support of all the agencies to help manage the lands and its resources.
He added that if the forest reserve of the country is not exploited, industries will suffer because they depend on the forest for their raw materials.
“There is a need to protect our forest,” he said.
Mr. Jinapor said that the ban imposed by the government on the harvesting and exploitation of forest reserves is not lifted.
