Mr Acheampong-Parry Emmanuel, Bono East regional Head of the National Road Safety Authority (NRSA) has observed that it is unacceptable for Motorbikes that are to carry not more than 3 people to cause over 60% of road accident deaths even more than private and passenger cars in the year 2021.
Giving an account of road accidents situation in an interview with the media, he revealed that, the Bono East Regional NRSA in 2021 recorded a total of 288 accidents involving 537 vehicles which resulted in 129 deaths.
He gave the breakdown as follows; Vehicles involved in accidents – Commercial (254), Private (81), Motorbikes (202), Pedestrian knockdowns (65), Persons Injured (383), Deaths – Commercial (26), Private (18), Motorbikes (85)
“It is in this direction that the NRSA in the year 2022 has vowed to partner the Police MTTD, DVLA and other Stakeholders in road safety to target at Motor, Pragya and Aboboyaa Riders in the Bono East in order to bring this menace that poses serious danger to the lives of the good people of the region to a halt as quickly as possible” he stated.
Mr Acheampong-Parry added that accident cases in the Bono East region for the year 2021 generally saw a slight increase as against the previous year 2020 which is very worrisome despite the several educational programs, but said they will continue working harder to see a drastic reduction in the coming years.
