The Krontihene of New Juaben traditional area Barfuor Nyantakyi Tutu Boateng has stated that he has the power to declare Juabenhene Daasebre Otuo Serebuor persona non grata in New Juaben.
According to the Krontihene, the Juabenhene should cautiously respect tradition and customs of New Juaben and desist from interference and usurping arbitrary powers to himself to the extent of banning him from traditional meetings and activities regarding the burial of the late Omanhene of New Juaben and Queen-mother Daasebre Prof Emeritus Oti Boateng and Nana Yaa Daani II respectively.
Speaking to the media in Koforidua, the Krontihene said he rather has the power to declare the Juabenhene persona non grata if pushed to the wall.
He said nobody can ban him from any meetings, funerals, or whatsoever because traditionally, he is supposed to be caretaker chief, and rightly so he is the acting Omanhene.
Confusion at New Juaben palace, Krontihene threw out of the meeting after invoking the great oath of Otumfuor.
There was confusion at the Yiadom Hwedie palace of the New Juaben Traditional area on Monday, January 17, 2022, during a meeting presided by the Juabenhene of Ashanti Region Daasebre Otuo Serebuor II.
The confusion arose when Krontihene of New Juaben Barfuor Nyantakyi Tutu Boateng invoked the great oath of Asantehene on Daasebre Otuo Serebuor II, for uncustomary imposing himself as the interim Omanhene of New Juaben.
Krontihene had earlier raised a point of order to the effect that, tradition must be followed therefore the need to resolve some misunderstandings over who is eligible to be caretaker chief in the New Juaben Traditional area.
These statements by Krontihene infuriated the chief linguist of Daasebre Otuo Serebuor who ordered the ejection of the Krontihene creating chaos at the meeting conveyed by the Juabenhene despite heavy security presence.
Nana Otuo Serebuor said the conduct of the Krontihene was disrespectful that, he did not convey the meeting to resolve chieftaincy matters rather ensure befitting burial for the late Omanhene and Queen-mother.
He said “We are in a state of emergency so I will use my emergency powers as Omanhene of Juaben to ensure successful funeral rite”
He banned the Krontihene from attending any meeting he conveys with regards to the funeral of the late Daasebre Oti Boateng and his Queen-mother.
Nana Otuo Serebuor meanwhile formed committees chaired by himself to ensure a befitting 40- days celebration for the two late royals slated for March 7, 2022, after which the date for the burial and final funeral will be announced.
But speaking to the media, the Krontihene of New Juaben Barfuor Nyantakyi Tutu Boateng said he will push for the case to reach Asantehene Otumfour Osei Tutu for arbitration.
He said Nana Otuo Serebuor II cannot impose himself on Acting Chief of New Juaben.
“I invoked the Great oath of Asantehene on Nana Otuo Serebuor II, for the uncustomary imposition of himself as the interim Omanhene of New Juaben, while at the same time saying that the NJTC issues are not why he came to Koforidua, which to me smacks of dishonesty. Because of the invocation of the oath, they insisted that I leave the Palace and for the sake of peace I left. But this is not the end of the matter; I will push for the case to reach Otumfour for arbitration. Nana Otuo Siriboe II cannot impose himself on New Juaben. I will always boldly speak my mind anytime anywhere”.
Daasebre Oti Boateng passed away in August 2021 while the Queen-mother Nana Yaa Daani died the first week of January 2022.
New Juaben and Asante Juaben stool are from one Royal lineage, Yiadom Hwedie royal family.
