Western and Western North Regions’ Chairman for Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) and Assistant Headmaster of Sefwi Wiawso Senior High Technical School Peter Obeng Nyamekye is on heat as he opposes the implementation of a new academic calendar for basic schools.
Mr Obeng Nyamekye expressed his enormous support for the Education Minister, Osei Yaw Adutwum in his endeavours to transform Ghana’s education system and Ghana at large.
He, however, said teachers are major stakeholders in terms of teaching and learning so the Ministry of Education, Ghana Education Service cannot succeed in planning education reformation without teachers’ inclusion.
He also opined that the new school calendar would not benefit both teachers, students and parents as well.
According to him, teachers will practically spend more than the eight and half hours presumed by the Education Ministry, adding that teachers wouldn’t have time for their post-school activities such as farming, driving and others.
