A total of 6,585 cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed at Kotoka International Airport-Ghana among travelers Since Ghana resumed domestic flights in the wake of COVID-19 in 2020.
Out of the cases recorded, 5,523 patients who were isolated for treatment were recovered and discharged but Ghana`s Land and Sea borders remain closed since 2020 to curb the spread of the Pandemic.
The Ghana Health Service (GHS) has announced some changes to the guidelines for Ghanaians entering the country through the Kotoka International Airport (KIA).
Per the earlier modification implemented during the yuletide last year, persons aged 18 years and above, arriving in Ghana from December 12, 2021, were to provide proof of full vaccination.
Director-General of GHS, Dr. Patrick Kumah-Aboagye explained that the directive has been reviewed to make it more lenient so from 2022, unvaccinated or partially vaccinated Ghanaians and resident foreigners have been “exempted from the requirement of full vaccination before traveling to Ghana.”
Ghana Health Service report as of 14th January 2022 indicates that Active cases dropped from 7,432 to 6,224 with nine critical cases and 38 others in severe condition.
Greater Accra Region remains a hot spot with Active cases of 3,120 followed by International travelers who also have 1,062 cases and 491 in the Central region.
As of 14th January 2022, all the 16 regions have cases of covid-19 but Savanna and Oti region have the lowest figures which are 28 and 22 respectively.
