The Ghana Education Service, GES, has closed down Akro Senior High Technical School in the Odumase Krobo Municipality in the Eastern region over insecurity following the attack on the school by town folks after students lynched a suspected thief by the students.
Students of Akro SECTECH lynched the suspected thief on January 21, 2022, at about 10:00pm.
The deceased Kpabitey Emmanuel Sackitey and the surviving accomplice now in critical condition were apprehended and beaten by a mob of students after invading the girl’s dormitory of the school to allegedly steal.
The deceased Sackitey has been identified as a former pantryman at the school but now with Krobo Girls Senior High School.
Following the incident, an irate group of townfolks stormed the school Saturday morning to launch a reprisal attack leading to clashes.
Some properties including school vehicles were smashed.
Parents who were attending PTA meetings and caught up in the clashes demanded the release of their children over safety issues.
The Eastern Regional Education Director, Margaret Nsiah Asamoah, and a delegation from the Eastern Regional Coordinating Council paid an emergency visit to the school in the Lower Manya Krobo Municipality Sunday, January 23, 2022, to assess the situation on the ground.
Upon extensive consultation with the Municipal Security Council and management of the school, GES ordered that the School be closed down immediately to be reopened on 7th February 2022.
This means the ongoing end-of-semester examination has been affected.
