Shisha Smoking party banner hoisted in Koforidua to advertise the program has been removed after the Bryt FM report.
It is not clear the agency that removed the banner but sources say the Police did.
Timmers pub, located near Koforidua Srodae – Aya road was seriously advertising that it will hold Shisha smoking Night on February 14, 2022, to mark Valentine’s Day.
Sources say the pub is notorious for smoking activities hence expecting hundreds of people to participate.
Many residents in Koforidua were disgusted after the publication.
The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has however said last year that, waterpipe tobacco smoking popularly known as ‘shisha’ is illegal in Ghana.
According to the FDA, it has not been licensed for use therefore persons or pubs who want to use Shisha need to contact the FDA for permission.
Shisha is water pipe tobacco smoking which is a form of tobacco consumption that utilizes a single or multi-stemmed instrument to smoke flavored or non-flavored tobacco, where smoke is designed to pass through water or other liquids before reaching the smoker.
It consists of a head or tobacco bowl in which tobacco is placed, a body, a water bowl, a hose, and a mouthpiece.
It has serious health implications.
However, most pubs and drinking spots in the urban areas make the water pipes available to their customers who openly inhale the flavored tobacco smoke emanating from it.
FDA urged the public to report operators of pubs, restaurants, drinking spots among others who offer it to their customers as well as shops that trade in it.
The Ghana Police Service and FDA are therefore expected to act on this Shisha Party to be held in Koforidua.
