Following the successful graduation of the second batch of beneficiaries of the Free Senior High School policy, the University of Ghana at Legon-Accra received a total of 50,596 applications from Africans with the West Africa Secondary School Certificate and other foreign qualifications for the 2021/2022 academic year.
This includes 454 International students from 52 African Countries, Asia, Europe, North and South America.
Speaking on behalf of the University of Ghana Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Nana Aba Appiah Amfo during 2021/2022 matriculation for Distance Education students which was held virtually to avert the spread of the pandemic COVID-19, Provost at the college of education, Professor Martin Oteng Ababio said a total of 16,387 applicants were enrolled for undergraduates programs which included 48% female and 52% males.
Given the breakdown of students enrolled, Professor Martin Oteng Ababio said the College of Education received 4,378 fresh students, College of Health Sciences got 650 students, College of Humanities received 8,518 students and College of Basic Applied Science also admitted 2,841 students respectively.
He said the University will continue with its policy of allowing all through the affirmative action policy for women and special attention to applicants from less endowed schools, athletic students, and special needs students.
The Provost noted that the pandemic COVID-19 has opened innovations increase the use of Technology at the University of Ghana for both academic and administration and encouraged the junior members of the premier University to use the opportunities available to upgrade their Information Technology Skills to fully benefit from the innovations.
Professor Martin Oteng Ababio congratulated the fresh students and charged them to study hard and be regular in all the University`s Learning Management systems and platforms to guide them to follow the academic calendar.
