Hearts of Oka and Kotoko legend Charles Taylor is against the return of Sulley Muntari into the Black Stars ahead of the crucial World Cup play-off against Nigeria.
The Black Stars will play the Super Eagles in a two-legged encounter with the winner of both legs securing qualification to the biggest soccer Mundial in Qatar.
Ghana will play host to Nigeria on March 25, 2022, before the reverse fixture at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja on March 29, 2022.
Interim coach Otto Addo is yet to announce his squad for the games against Nigeria later this month.
Sulley Muntari signed for Hearts of Oak in February and has made four Ghana Premier League appearances, providing one assist. He was also in top form as the Phobians beat Asante Kotoko to win the President Cup.
Reports in the local media suggest the coaching staff led by Otto Addo are considering handing call up to the Phobian midfielder for the Nigeria clash.
But Charles Taylor is against his return to the national team as he strongly believes Muntari is currently not a Black Stars material.
“Muntari is not a Black Stars material. The Nigeria squad poses ’a threat to us, so I will advise the coach to invite players who can last for the entire duration. Muntari has played for the national team for several years but at the moment, his game does not fit the Black Stars” he said on Angel TV.
“I’m being honest, he cannot play for the Black Stars for now especially our game against Nigeria. I will plead with the coaches not to invite him because he is not fit enough. People are talking about the experience but I have a different view on that, at some point in time, experience does not count.”
“We are not talking about experience; we are talking about players who are doing well. it is about time we stop talking about the experience because experience doesn’t guarantee you a loan from the bank” he said.
