The chiefs and people of Mampong Akuapem have declared their intentions to support Sammy Awuku if he steps forward to contest as Member of Parliament for Akuapem North Constituency.
They said, although Sammy Awuku has not officially declared his intention, they are ready to remove their traditional regalia and clothes to campaign for him.
According to the Mampong Akwapim Traditional council, they have no idea if Sammy Awuku, an illustrious son, will have an interest in becoming an Mp, but if he did it will be welcoming news.
In an interview with the media, the Apesemakahene of Mampong Akwapim Nana Yirenkyi l said “for now we are not aware of anything but if he wants it we will help him.”
According to him, Sammy Awuku has done a lot for Akwapim, and all the chiefs and the people have accepted him.
“Any day our son will tell us he wants to be an MP, expect all the chiefs to campaign for him.”
He said Sammy Awuku has distinguished himself very well in Ghanaian politics and democracy.
Aside from that, he has supported many in Akuapem Area to progress in life.
“We are waiting one day if he decides and we will support him.”
Sammy Awuku is said to be nursing ambition to contest the upcoming parliamentary primaries of the NPP in Akuapem North to become MP.
The seat is currently occupied by Nana Ama Dokua Asiamah, an NPP MP who is also a deputy minister of trade.
There is already friction between supporters of Sammy Awuku and the incumbent MP in the on-going polling station executives and Electoral Area Coordinators election.
