Five (5) persons including a driver of a Toyota Hiace have perished in a gory accident near Akyem Asiakwa junction near Bunso on Accra to Kumasi Highway in the Eastern region.
Seven passengers also sustained serious injuries.
Bryt FM has gathered that the accident occurred Monday, April 4 at about 3:55am.
The now-deceased driver in charge Toyota Hiace minibus with Registration number AK 1145-21 with 13 passengers aboard was traveling from Kumasi towards Accra.
The speeding bus driver on reaching a section of the road after Akyem Asiakwa junction near Bunso on Accra to Kumasi Highway without due care and attention veered off his lane and crashed the offside rear portion of a DAF low bird articulated truck with registration number GT 3799-16 driven suspect Driver Abonomovi Promise, 40, who was with a drivers mate.
The DAF truck was loaded with water pumping machines traveling from Tema towards Kumasi direction with three escort vehicles two in front and one behind.
The impact of the crash forced the Toyota minibus to crash at the roadside killing five persons including the driver instantly.
Seven male occupants aboard the Toyota Hiace minibus sustained injuries and were rushed to Hawa Memorial Savior hospital by Police have been admitted.
The Public Rations officer of the Eastern Regional Police Command DSP Ebenezer Tetteh told confirmed the accident adding that police Personnel quickly rushed to the scene to extricate the victims to the hospital and kept the dead bodies at the Kibi government hospital morgue for identification, preservation, and autopsy.
He said the accident vehicle have been towed for testing as part of the investigation to unravel the cause.
