The Member of Parliament for Afram Plains North in the Eastern region, Betty Krosbi Mensah has handed over 30 outboard motors to fishermen in the Constituency.
Afram Plains is farming and fishing area. These are their sources of livelihood however; fishermen in the area continue to operate with faulty outboard motors affecting their efficiency.
The MP said “a successful milestone was chalked in the lives of the good people of Afram Plains North together with my constituency executives led by Hon. Prosper Galinor, I handed over 30 outboard motors to the fishing and transport enterprise in the district.
The motive is to provide government-subsidized brand new outboard motors both Suzuki and Yamaha brands to fisherfolks. This is to help curb the over-reliance on faulty second-hand outboard motors which over the years have contributed to the many accidents on our lake and rivers leading to the loss of lives, capital, and property”.
Betty Mensah Krosby is hopeful the gesture will help boost economic activities.
“This will also boost the economic activities of fishing communities and individuals for a better life through commercial purposes which will help them earn money to pay fees and provide basic care for families to be independent”.
