Constituency chairmen of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Eastern Region have declared their support for the retention of Dr. Mark Oliver Kevor as Regional Chairman ahead of the party’s 2028 general election campaign.
The chairmen made the declaration on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, after submitting nomination forms on behalf of Dr. Kevor at the party’s regional office.
Speaking on behalf of the constituency chairmen, Kofi Mintah, the Akim Swedru Constituency Chairman, said their decision was based on Dr. Kevor’s leadership and the party’s electoral performance in the region.
He claimed that under Dr. Kevor’s leadership, the NDC’s share of votes in the Eastern Region had increased from 36 per cent to 48.5 per cent, a development he said contributed to John Dramani Mahama’s return to the presidency.
“We came to submit the nomination of Engineer Dr. Mark Oliver Kevor, the Regional Chairman of the NDC, because we, the constituency chairmen present, represent the caucus that wants him to continue his good works,” Mr. Mintah said.
He described Dr. Kevor’s contribution to the party’s growth as significant, adding that the constituency chairmen were backing him because of the guidance, coaching and support they had received under his leadership.
According to him, although the party’s electoral gains in the region were a collective effort, Dr. Kevor played a key role in the achievement.
Mr. Mintah said the declaration represented the position of constituency chairmen across the Eastern Region, adding that they wanted the wider NDC fraternity to understand their support for the Regional Chairman’s continued leadership.
He expressed optimism that the party could increase its share of votes in the region beyond 50 per cent in the next general election.
“We are expecting that from 48 per cent, we are strictly going to jump over 50 per cent, and then the Eastern Region will become a strong region, but not a stronghold of the NPP,” he said.
The endorsement comes as the NDC prepares for its regional-level internal elections, with leadership in the Eastern Region expected to play a role in the party’s preparations for the 2028 general elections.
Dr.Mark Oliver Kevor who is contesting for reelection has said the NDC’s improved performance in the Eastern Region in the 2024 general election provides a foundation for the party to intensify its grassroots mobilisation rather than change its leadership direction.
He is expected to pick his nomination form on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, to formally begin the process for his re-election bid.
According to him, the NDC’s vote share in the region increased from 36.5 percent in 2016 to almost 48 percent in 2024, a development he attributes to sustained grassroots organisation and strategic party work.
“Almost 48% cannot be our destination. We have laid a foundation, but there is more work to do. This is the time for consolidation,” Dr. Kevor said.
He said his next phase of leadership would focus winning more seats and invading opposition strongholds to garner more votes.
“Our goal must be clear: to turn the Eastern Region green, constituency by constituency and branch by branch,” he stated.
Dr. Kevor ,an IT Enginering especialist who is the immediate last Director General for National Information Technology Agency also pledged to deepen the use of data and structured organisation in the NDC’s activities, drawing lessons and inspiration from his political mentor, the late former Communications Minister, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah.
