The Member of Parliament for Shai Osudoku constituency Linda Obenewa Akweley Ocloo has charged branch women executives of the opposition National Democratic Congress to ignore a recent report by the Economic Intelligent Unit(EIU) that, John Mahama must be changed as Presidential candidate to enable the party win 2024 election.
The EIU, in its five-year forecast for Ghana released on April 13, 2022, observed that the next parliamentary and presidential elections are due in 2024, and under constitutionally mandated term limits, the incumbent president, Mr. Akufo-Addo, cannot run for a third term.
The report however said, “the former president, John Mahama, is reportedly considering running again, but we expect the opposition NDC to try to revitalize its prospects with a fresh candidate.”
The Unit further stated that “our baseline forecast is that ongoing public dissatisfaction with the slow pace of improvements in governance—such as infrastructure development, job creation and easing of corruption—will trigger anti-incumbency factors and push the electorate to seek a change.
The Shai Osudoku MP however says, the EIU report on John Mahama is fictional stating that, John Mahama is NDC’s safest bet in 2024 whose track records in his first term have vindicated him.
Addressing the branch women executives, the MP urged them to go all out to campaign to help NDC secure victory in the next Presidential and Parliamentary elections.
The MP said Ghanaians are yearning for change due to gross mismanagement of the economy by the Akufo Addo-led New Patriotic Party government which has afflicted hardship on Ghanaians.
She said women in the country are the worst affected by economic hardship hence the need for branch women organizers to engage women electorates, in particular, to articulate plans by the NDC to provide economic liberation.
The MP presented ceremonial clothes to all the branch women executives of the party to be worn during meetings and social gatherings.
