US based Ghanaian mining engineer and consultant, Dr. Solomon Kwabena Owusu has asked why Ghanaians must suffer from irresponsible way of managing our water bodies by our political leaders.
In a post, the experienced mining guru indicated that, illegal mining, popularly known as ‘galamsey’ has negatively affected the activities of the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) which has warranted the call for increment of water tariffs more than 300%.
Dr. Solomon Owusu revealed the GWCL “has been complaining about their pump destructions and high maintenance costs due to difficulties in water treatment because of siltations and chemical accumulations in water sources as a result of galamsey activities.
His post below:
Why Should the Citizens Suffer at the End? – Dr. Solomon Owusu to Government
I remember GWCL has been complaining about their pump destructions and high maintenance costs due to difficulties in water treatment because of siltations and chemical accumulations in water sources as a result of galamsey activities.
Why shouldn’t the government put pragmatic measures in place to address the galamsey problems, instead of increasing the GWCL charges for the citizens to pay? Why should we allow the Chinese guys to pollute our waterbodies illegally for the citizens to suffer?
Please check the current state of River Tano below. This is due to galamsey activities by the Chinese guys along the river. With this, why won’t water treatment and maintenance costs spontaneously increase?
The River flows from Techiman area in the Bono East Region to the Western Region to enter the Atlantic Ocean in Ivory Coast.
Why should the citizens rather be penalized with this skyrocketing 334% tariff increment?
