Koforidua was totally dead Monday night as the New Juaben Traditional Council bid a final farewell to the late paramount chief, Daasebre Professor Emeritus Oti Boateng and Queen mother, Nana Yaa Dani II.
The final farewell, known in Akan tradition as ‘Doteyie’ started on Friday, May 13, 2022, to Monday, May 16, 2022, after the great leaders were finally laid to rest at midnight on Monday.
There was a curfew by the Traditional Council in the night prior to the final burial, which saw the whole of Koforidua and surrounding towns under the traditional area going silent and empty.
At 9 pm, there were only a few people who were spotted by the reporter either going to their homes from work or standing in front of their houses anxiously.
Almost all shops and food joints that were even allowed to do business within the period of the funeral were closed down, making it difficult for people to have access to some products and goods they needed.
Again, access to transport was also a headache as most taxi drivers had closed forcing people to walk to their various destinations as the day was late and afraid of any unforeseen instances.
