Five (5) persons have died in a fatal accident in Fanteakwa North District in the Eastern region.
The accident occurred on Tuesday, 17th May 2022 at about 15:30 pm
The accident involved a Benz bus with registration number GE 4075 – E from Donkorkrom in Afram Plains towards Akim Agogo.
According to Mr Boateng a survivor of the accident, the bus was overloaded with bags of maize and charcoal with few passengers aboard.
He said they decided to ply the road through Miaso to Begoro instead of using the Nkawkaw stretch of the Accra to Kumasi highway to avoid being arrested by Police and forestry officials.
He said the driver failed to brake at a curve near the Akrumsu community hence veering off the road, somersaulting and crashing.
“It took residents of Akrumsu and later personnel of NADMO, the Police and fire service to join the rescue operation. Five were retrieved dead but, the driver and his mate were retrieved alive and hence quickly rushed to the Begoro District Hospital for medical attention” a witness said.
He said “the maize and the charcoal fell on the five which resulted in their sudden demise. The bodies of the deceased had been deposited at the Begoro district morgue”
