President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has directed the Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs) in the Greater Accra Region to demolish all constructions that cause flooding.
To prevent the recurrence of flooding in the city, President Akufo-Addo asked the MMDCEs to demolish all constructions.
Nana Akufo-Addo instructed the Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs) to ensure strict adherence to developments in the country’s planning laws during the commissioning of two IHC Beaver 50 dredgers and marine equipment by Dredge Masters Limited (DML), a subsidiary of the Jospong Group of Companies (JGC), in Accra.
He encouraged the MMDAs to penalize personnel who grant permits for construction on waterways as a deterrence to those who commit such crimes.
“MMDAs must also guarantee strict adherence to changes in the country’s planning regulations and discipline personnel who issue permits for structures to be built on waterways as a deterrence to those who indulge in such acts,” President Akufo-Addo stated.
“I’ve formed a monitoring unit that will report directly to me on the progress of these measures’ implementation.” I’m putting all MMDCEs on notice, and any breaches that result in flooding damage will be held accountable.” Added President Akufo-Addo.
