Former Deputy General Secretary of the NPP, Nana Obiri Boahen, has stated emphatically that no one in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) will win the party’s flagbearship race ahead of Dr Mahamadu Bawumia.
His comment comes after Hopeson Adorye, a member of “Team Alan,” asserted that Northerners in the party are only suitable for running mate jobs and not flagbearer positions during a “walk for Alan” on Saturday in Kumasi.
He claimed that Busia and Danquah alternated holding the office of president.
“One thing. NPP is traditional. Busia, Danquah, Dombo are our traditions. Danquah represents Eastern Region and the south, Danquah represents Ashanti Region and Bono, and Dombo represents Northern Region.
The NPP veteran says, “When a Danquah leads, the Busia side steps aside but there’s a Dombo, and when a Busia leads, the Danquah side steps aside but there’s a Dombo” (for a running mate). As for the Dombos, they’re always there.”
Responding to this, Nana Obiri Boahen has rubbished those claims as he declared with authority that the Vice President alone will represent the ruling NPP in the upcoming general elections in 2024.
He called Hopeson Adorye’s assertion “false calculations” on Okay FM in Accra.
“I can beat my chest and say that as long as I Kofi Boahene is alive, no one can beat Dr Bawumia. With all due respect to every individual. In the Ashanti region, Alan Kyeremanten and other aspirants’ votes in the Ashanti region will not reach that of Dr Bawumia. I am not bragging but I trust what I am saying.
“Forget about what Hopeson Adorye said. What he said is not true that Northerners are only fit for running mates. His calculations were totally wrong,” he said.
