The Kyebi Circuit Court has remanded 16 accused land guards into prison custody but granted bail to one other (a chief).
The 16 accused land guards were arrested by the Okyeman Land Protection Taskforce at Yawkorkor near Nsawam in the Eastern Region for terrorizing residents of the Yawkorkor, Nsawam, and Asamankese communities.
The task force retrieved some offensive weapons including guns and was handed over to the Kyebi Divisional Police Command for further investigation.
Speaking to the media after the court proceedings in Kyebi in the Eastern region, Baafour Asiedu Bekoe who is Okyeman Akwasrahene narrated that the activities of land guards in the communities have led to many fatalities and injuries.
He further accused the CEO of KOANS Estate solutions, Kofi Anokye, and some individuals including Nana Mankata, the Quansah family, and one Bishop Nana Adu who is the leader of All Souls International Ministries at Kwabenya of recruiting land guards to carry out their illegal activities on the land of Okyeman.
He called on the security agencies to take urgent steps to stop the activities of the land guards warning that the Okyeman Land Protection Taskforce will deal with them.
Meanwhile, the Chief of Yawkorkor Barimah Okata Amoah lamented that his subjects are gripped with fear to go too far due to the gun-wielding activities of the land guards.
