A team of EU Western and Central Africa Port Security (WeCAPS), composed of experts of the World Maritime University (WMU), an expert of the Port of Antwerp-Bruges (POAB) and two members of Expertise France (EF), hosted a 2-day series of presentations and group exercises on the legal framework of port security and safety.
The workshop which ended on Sunday took place at Lancaster Hotel, in Accra.
Various delegates, drawn from Ghana Maritime Authority (GMA), Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA), the National Disaster Management (NADMO), the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Centre for Maritime Law and Security Africa (CEMLAWS) actively participated.
A series of interesting discussions were held, affirming the importance of port security and safety in the ports of Ghana.
GMA was represented by Capt. (Rtd) Emmanuel Ankamah, Deputy Director of Ship Inspections & Maritime Security and Mr George Asare-Afriyie, a Senior Legal Officer.
