The public outcry following the Christian Ecumenical Bodies of Ghana’s visit to illicit mining sites in the Eastern Region has upset them.
They claim that it is malicious and false to assume that they went to the “galamsey” locations to pray.
The President of the Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council, Rev. Prof. Paul Frimpong Manso, called the insults aimed at them on social media sad, during an interview on Adom FM’s morning show, Dwaso Nsem, on Tuesday.
The clergy was made fun of when a video of them worshipping at a “galamsey” spot gained popularity on social media.
Many people questioned why the men of God would visit illegal mining sites where there was no possibility of human error and sing and pray.
The government was expected to impose harsh punishment on individuals found guilty of galamsey under pressure from the clergy.
Rev. Frimpong Manso responded by saying that they went to the galamsey spots to acquire data rather than play games.
He stated that social media comments are the result of ignorance and double standards.
“What we saw with our eyes is scary; our water bodies are now muddy so we must act fast before things get out of hand,” he stressed.
