The Atiwa west constituency chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress NDC, Johnson Anom Amo has accused the Eastern Regional Chairman of the party Dr. Mark Oliver Kevor of deliberately orchestrating the numerous court cases involving some party executives in the region prior to the regional elections which was held last year.
He, therefore, bewailed that the action of some Eastern regional executives is currently affecting the upcoming parliamentary primaries in the Atiwa west constituency saying no parliamentary aspirant has so far been able to file and submit their nomination forms to the party executives in the constituency office.
According to the Atiwa west constituency chairman, “the NDC Regional Chairman took the action when the party was preparing for the constituency elections since he had the intentions of contesting for regional chairmanship position and he knew that some executives will never tow any line that he will ask for hence orchestrated the move that those constituencies that he doesn’t feel safe should be challenge at the court”.
Johnson Amo said this Monday March 20,2023 in Koforidua at the Koforidua High Court after the court failed to make ruling on suite challenging legitimacy of the Atiwa West constituency executives. The case has thus been adjourned again.
He said “the party is not safe in the Eastern region, as we speak it is not only Atiwa west which is in court , Afram plains north and south, Mpraeso, Atiwa east and Atiwa west which I am the constituency chairman”.
“All these moves have been orchestrated by Mark Oliver Kevor the regional Chairman of the NDC , he orchestrated the move so that we will not even get the opportunity to have participated in all these electoral processes the party had put in place” he said.
He lamented that the pending court cases are having dire consequences on the upcoming parliamentary primaries in all the four other constituencies.
“Today is the filing of Parliamentary nominations the party is in court constituency executives are here who is going to open the office ,even though there are elections committee the election committee cannot work in isolation without the party”
“Office is being run by secretary and and if the secretary is in court, the chairman and all other 24 executives are in court who will superintend the activities of the party in the constituencies and it is not only Atiwa West all these other four constituencies are also battling with similar issues” he said.
He was worried that the court case is affecting their work at the constituencies and expressed fear that if immediate action is not taking by the leadership of the party it will mar the victory of the NDC in the Eastern region.
“If care is not taking this party will break on our heads and our victory in 2024 is hench on unity in the Eastern region because if we fail to gunner about 40% of the total valid vote cast the NDC cannot win the general election”
“And if these five constituencies are suffering we have two traditional seats Afram plains North, Afram plains South are our traditional strongholds and if this disunity is consuming the party like one fire on the desert where will the party stand and where will be our fortune” he added.
