The Chief of Akyem-Tafo, Osabarima Adusei Peasah, has praised Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, the running mate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer John Mahama, during her visit to his palace in Akyem-Tafo.
He lauded her capabilities and leadership qualities, noting that her selection as Mahama’s running mate was a wise decision.
The Chief highlighted that her potential election as Vice President would be historic for Ghana, marking the first time the country would have a female Vice President.
He expressed confidence in her ability to contribute significantly to the nation’s development and urged her to continue her exemplary leadership if elected.
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang’s visit included a call on the head of the Saviour Church at Osiem and a visit to the Tafo Palm oil extraction factory recently damaged by fire.
She also visited Akyem Tafo Market to interact with traders.
Prof. Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang stated that, the Progressive Free Senior High School introduced under the John Mahama led government was better impelemented compared the current implementation under NPP government.
She said the next NDC government will review the policy to address challenges that have affected its implementation to enhance equitable quality education.
“We (NDC) introduced Free SHS. It was called Progressively Free because there are people who are capable of paying their children’s fees, while others cannot. So we decided to implement it holistically. We provided school bags, books, and other essentials, ensuring that there were no complaints about students going four to five years without books. Our progressively free SHS was well-implemented, with no hue and cry”.
He challenged the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) to provide evidence that the NDC plans to cancel the Free Senior High School (SHS) program if voted into power.
“So, if today they claim the NDC is against Free SHS, then the person is being disingenuous. If anyone has evidence that President Mahama has said he will cancel Free SHS, they should bring the evidence. Don’t believe such people.Under the NDC, did you hear anything about double track? John Dramani Mahama has stated that he will review the policy, remove double track, and make the policy better” Said Professor Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang.
