Actions of the member of Parliament for Ayawaso West Wugon Lydia Seyram Alhassan during Monday’s special voting exercise has been condemned by the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE).
The lawmaker was captured on video sharing food and water to security personnel who were waiting in queue to cast their votes.
The lawmaker was personally seen with other people sharing the items to the voters at the watch of his main contender John Dumelo and all other persons present at the polling Station.
Meanwhile, reacting to the issue on Bryt Adekyee Mu Nsem on Bryt fm on Tuesday, the NCCE Director Ophelia Ankrah described the MP’s action as unfortunate as it goes against Ghana’s electoral laws.
She indicated that such actions by politicians is worrying as it undermines Ghana’s democratic governance and credentials.
Madam Ankrah also urged electorates to desist from taking up bribes and gifts from politicians to influence their voting pattern, because such politicians would not be accountable as expected when elected into power.
However, information gathered indicate the Office of the Special Prosecutor has taken up the matter and started investigation into it.
