The Third National Vice Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Alhaji Osman Massawud, has issued a fiery statement condemning what he describes as unconstitutional actions by the current government, particularly the suspension of the Chief Justice and the rapid appointment of Supreme Court judges.
Speaking on Bryt Adekye Mu Nsem with host Kwahu Dehye, Alhaji Massawud voiced strong opposition to the Mahama administration, claiming it is leading Ghana down a dangerous path toward dictatorship. “We are as wild as lions,” he declared, referring to the NPP’s resolve in the ongoing protests.
According to Massawud, the central issue behind the NPP-led demonstration is the manner in which President John Mahama is handling the removal of the Chief Justice. He criticized the president for allegedly by-passing the constitutional processes and rushing through judicial appointments—claiming that within just two months, seven judges have been added to the Supreme Court bench.
“This is not how a democratic nation should operate,” Massawud asserted, warning that such moves echo the authoritarian tendencies of past regimes. He likened Mahama’s leadership style to that of former President Jerry John Rawlings, suggesting the NDC is reverting to its revolutionary roots.
The NPP Vice Chairman emphasized that the demonstration is not a partisan effort. He noted that members from various political parties, the Ghana Bar Association, Parliamentarians, civil servants, and journalists have all joined forces to resist what they see as creeping authoritarianism.
“This is a democracy, not a coup or a revolution. We won’t allow Ghana to be dragged backward,” Massawud stated, calling for national unity in defense of constitutional governance.
