A 15-year-old boy has drowned in galamsey pit in Amuanapraso a farming community in the Birim North District of the Eastern Region.
The deceased, Bright Mensah, got drowned in an abandoned illegal mining pit near River Pra.
According to the parents of the deceased, Mr. Teye Mensah and Madam Akosua Cecilia, the son left home that he was going to visit a family member Thursday, April 30, 2020, but did not return.
Chief of Amuanapraso and elders, NADMO, the assembly members in the town, unit committee members were informed who subsequently mobilized the youth to join the police for the search.
The search party found slippers and dress of the deceased on the fringe of the pit raising suspicion that he would be in the pit.
A search by Local divers led to the discovery and removal of the body of the deceased.
According to opinion leaders on the community, children sneak to swim in the pit; therefore, suspect the deceased went swimming but got drowned.
His body has been deposited at the Holy Family Hospital Morgue at Nkawkaw.
