A loading boy, Jonathan Quaicoe, has been commended for his honesty after returning a bag containing €3,000 and GH¢1,000 that was reportedly left behind in a vehicle travelling from Accra to Koforidua.
Quaicoe, a loading boy operating at Ayi Mensah in the Greater Accra Region, reportedly found the money while on duty and subsequently handed it over to the police.
According to the police, a woman boarded a commercial Toyota Hiace at Ghana Flag in the Greater Accra Region, travelling to Koforidua with a bag containing the cash.
Upon arrival in Koforidua, however, the woman, together with the driver and mate of the vehicle, realised that the bag was missing.
The woman subsequently reported the matter to the Koforidua Central Police Station, prompting the New Juaben South Police Command to deploy an investigation team to Accra to trace the missing bag.
The investigation team, comprising police personnel and drivers, gathered information during their enquiries that the bag was in the possession of Jonathan Quaicoe, who operates around Ayi Mensah.
Quaicoe subsequently returned the bag and its contents to the police, bringing the search for the missing money to a successful end.
In recognition of his honesty and integrity, the woman who owned the money reportedly rewarded Quaicoe, while the police also presented him with a brand-new mobile phone for his exemplary conduct.
Speaking at a ceremony held to honour Quaicoe, the New Juaben South Municipal Crime Officer, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Augustine Asante Kusi, urged members of the public to emulate his example by handing over lost valuables to the police.
ASP Asante Kusi said such acts of honesty and integrity were essential to creating a safer and more trusting environment in society.
He encouraged Ghanaians who come across lost property to resist the temptation to keep it and instead report or hand it over to the police to enable the rightful owners to be located.
