The Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) has reaffirmed its commitment to restoring stable electricity supply across the country following a major fire outbreak at its Akosombo substation.
National Chairman of the Senior Staff Association (SSA), Wisdom Kojo Adenyo, described the incident as a national setback that significantly disrupted power distribution. Speaking on Bryt FM’s Adekyee Mu Nsem Morning Show with Kwamina Sam Biney, he noted that staff remain deeply concerned about the impact of the outage on consumers nationwide.
Meanwhile, investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the fire at the Akosombo facility in the Eastern Region.
Mr. Adenyo assured the public that GRIDCo engineers are actively on site, working tirelessly to restore power. He added that strategic measures have been put in place to ensure swift recovery and meet restoration targets.
In a statement issued on April 23, 2026, GRIDCo’s Corporate Communications Department confirmed that parts of the country have experienced power interruptions. It noted that emergency response teams were immediately deployed and are operating around the clock to assess the damage and implement urgent remedial actions.
The statement further indicated that a comprehensive evaluation is underway to establish the full extent of the impact and support technical teams in restoring normal operations as quickly as possible.
