Police in Nkawkaw in the Kwahu West Municipality of the Eastern Region have launched investigations into the death of a nine-month-old baby boy whose decomposing body was found in a stream near the Krofofrom Timber Market.
The baby is beleived to have been drowned by the mother to get rid of it.
The discovery, which has raised concerns of possible foul play, was reported to the police on Friday, August 7, 2026, by the Krofofrom Electoral Area Assembly Member Benjamin Kwadwo Agyapong.
According to the police station siteep, the Assembly Member, accompanied by another person, informed the police about the discovery of the infant’s body in the stream.
Police officers subsequently accompanied the complainants to the scene, where the body was retrieved and conveyed to the mortuary for preservation and further investigation.
The Assembly member, speaking to the local media , expressed concern over the circumstances of the death but said allegations obtained have not been independently confirmed by the police, and investigators to establish whether the child was killed before being placed in the stream or died from another cause.
Police are therefore working to establish the identity of the deceased, locate the child’s parents or relatives and determine how the infant ended up in the water.
No suspect has been identified or arrested in connection with the incident as investigations continue.
The police are expected to rely on forensic and post-mortem findings, as well as information from residents, to establish the exact cause and circumstances of the child’s death.
The Police are urging residents of Krofofrom and surrounding communities to provide any information that could help identify the baby or establish what happened before the body was discovered.
Anyone who may have witnessed suspicious movements around the stream, Krofofrom Timber Market or nearby communities is encouraged to report to the Ghana Police Service.
