The Okuapemhene, Oseadeeyo Kwasi Akuffo III, has paid a royal visit to the people of Nyerede in the Akuapem Traditional Area of the Okere District in the Eastern Region as part of his ongoing Nkabom Tour, an initiative aimed at fostering unity and strengthening ties among communities across Okuapeman.
The Nkabom Tour forms part of activities leading to the 200th anniversary of the Odwira Festival, which will be celebrated under the theme: “Honouring Our Heritage, Securing Our Future.” The tour is intended to enable the paramount chief to interact directly with his subjects, assess the needs of various communities and promote peace, unity and development throughout the traditional area.
Addressing a colourful durbar of chiefs, elders and residents at Nyerede, Oseadeeyo Kwasi Akuffo III said the purpose of the visit was not only to reaffirm the bond between the Okuapem Stool and its people but also to discuss the developmental needs of the community.
The Okuapemhene assured the people of his commitment to ensuring that all communities within the traditional area receive the attention they deserve. As part of his address, he pledged to elevate Nana Oduro-Frikyi Abrokwah, the Odikro of Nyerede, by formally installing him as the substantive chief of the community in accordance with Akuapem customary traditions.
He also encouraged the youth to take their education seriously, describing education as the key to personal success and the sustainable development of Okuapeman.
“The future of Okuapeman lies in the hands of our young people. I urge you to remain focused on your education, uphold our cultural values and contribute positively to the development of your communities,” he advised.
On his part, Nana Oduro-Frikyi Abrokwah, Odikro of Nyerede, expressed profound appreciation to the Okuapemhene for visiting the community, describing the visit as historic and a source of renewed hope for the people.
He noted that the presence of Oseadeeyo Kwasi Akuffo III had brought great joy and encouragement to the residents, reaffirming the strong relationship between the traditional authority and the people.
Speaking to Nhyiraba Solomon Nartey of Bryt FM after the durbar, Nana Oduro-Frikyi Abrokwah appealed for unity among residents and urged the youth to stay away from illicit drugs and other social vices that could undermine their future.
He also appealed to the government to complete the abandoned police station project in the area to improve security and enhance law enforcement.
Additionally, he called on non-governmental organisations and development partners to assist the community in addressing its potable water challenges, noting that access to clean and safe drinking water remains one of the major concerns facing residents.
The Nkabom Tour is expected to continue across other communities within the Akuapem Traditional Area as preparations gather momentum for the historic Odwira Bicentenary Celebration, which is expected to showcase the rich cultural heritage, unity and development aspirations of Okuapeman.
