The Ghana National Fire Service and the Ghana Police Service have commenced parrarel investigation into the deadly crash which claimed four lives at Akyem Anyinasi junction stretch of the Accra to Kumasi higway.
Four persons who are reported to be traders from Asamankese in Eastern Region were burnt to death in the horrific accident involving a trailer and a Hyundai Mighty truck at Anyinasin Junction near Bunso.
The tragic incident occurred in the early hours of Wednesday, May 6, 2026.
According to the Deputy Eastern Regional Public Relations Officer of the Ghana National Fire Service, DOIII Aron Adu Ohemeng, the service received a distress call at about 5:49 a.m. regarding a collision that had escalated into a fire outbreak.
Firefighters arrived at the scene around 6:00 a.m. and found both vehicles engulfed in flames.
“The fire was at a fully developed stage when officers arrived,” he stated.
The fire was eventually brought under control and extinguished after intense firefighting efforts.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the accident involved a Hyundai Mighty truck with registration number GE 1913-16, which was travelling from Asamankese towards Tafo, and a Man Diesel trailer with registration number GS 236-12 travelling from Kumasi towards Accra.
The two vehicles reportedly collided head-on at the junction, sparking the deadly inferno that claimed four lives.
The victims were burnt beyond recognition.
A female passenger aboard the Hyundai truck survived the crash and was rescued and rushed to the Akim Asafo Health Center, where she is currently receiving treatment.
Three occupants of the trailer escaped unhurt.
DOIII Aron Adu Ohemeng said investigation is ongoing to establish the cause of the crash and the fire.
