Several students of WBM Zion Senior High School (AMEZSS) at Old Tafo Akyem in the Eastern Region are reportedly receiving medical treatment following suspected cases of food poisoning.
The affected students are currently being treated at the Tafo Government Hospital and the Kukurantumi Community Hospital.
While the exact cause of the illness has not been confirmed, some students suspect it may be linked to rice purchased from the school’s canteen, while others believe it could be associated with kenkey served in the school’s dining hall.
School authorities have not yet issued an official statement on the incident, and the source of the suspected food poisoning remains unknown.
Food poisoning is caused by consuming contaminated food or water. The most common symptoms include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, stomach cramps, and fever.
Most cases are mild, resolving within a few days with rest and hydration. However, severe dehydration or systemic complications can occur.
Health authorities and management of WBM Zion SHS have commenced investigation into the incident to determine the cause of the illness and implement appropriate measures to prevent any further cases ad the affected students are receiving medical care, and it is hoped that they will make a full and speedy recovery.
