Accra, Thursday, July 3, 2025 — In a landmark development for Ghana’s judiciary, seven newly appointed Justices of the Supreme Court are scheduled to be officially sworn into office today at the Jubilee House. The swearing-in ceremony will be presided over by President John Dramani Mahama.
The appointments were confirmed earlier this year following a rigorous vetting process and parliamentary approval, in line with Article 144 of the 1992 Constitution. The new Justices are expected to significantly strengthen the highest court of the land, particularly as it prepares to take on a growing number of complex cases ranging from constitutional interpretation to electoral disputes and major civil and criminal appeals.
The newly appointed Supreme Court Justices are:
Justice Sir Dennis Dominic Adjei
Justice Gbiel Simon Suurbaareh
Justice Senyo Dzamefe
Justice Kweku Tawiah Ackaah-Boafo
Justice Philip Bright Mensah
Justice Janapare Bartels-Kodwo
Justice Hafisata Amaleboba
All seven have served as distinguished judges on the Court of Appeal and bring with them decades of judicial experience, legal scholarship, and professional integrity. Their elevation to the Supreme Court is seen as a strategic move to bolster the bench’s capacity amid increasing demands for timely and thorough adjudication of high-profile legal matters.
Legal analysts and court observers have welcomed the appointments, noting that the new Justices represent a blend of expertise in constitutional law, criminal justice, commercial litigation, and judicial reform.
Today’s ceremony at Jubilee House marks the final formal step in their transition to the apex court, as they take the oath of office and assume their new roles in shaping the future of Ghana’s legal system.
