The General Secretary of Tabital Pulaaku International Ghana, Yakubu Musah Barry said the donation was part of the association’s Corporate Social responsibility to support the vulnerable in society. He believes the items will go a long way to nourish meals serve the prisoners and also help in the effort to prevent coronavirus from entering into the Prisons.
He appealed to Ghanaians to desist from stigmatizing against Fulanis as a bunch of criminals. He said culprits must be dealt with as individuals just like any other Ghanaian who commits a crime.
The Commander in Charge of Akuse Prisons, Deputy Director of Prisons(DDP) Godwin M. K. Hoenyedzi, said several interventions including compulsory hand washing, wearing of nose masks, temperature checks and application of hand sanitizer have been instituted for both officers, inmates, and visitors before allowed to enter the prison yard.
Meals for inmates are supplemented with vegetables and fruits as well as vitamin C to help boost their immune system.
He appealed to philanthropists and government agencies to help the Akuse prisons with farm inputs to enable them to expand their farms to cultivate more crops to feed the inmates since the Ghc1.80p daily feeding grant is woefully inadequate.
