The Eastern South Regional Police Command has arrested the Abuakwa North Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Alhaji Abdul Wahab, in Koforidua over a viral video in which he allegedly issued death threats against three prominent political figures.
Those targeted in the threats include Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin, Frank Annoh-Dompreh, Minority Chief Whip, and Henry Nana Boakye, National Organizer of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Police confirmed that the suspect has been cautioned and granted bail, with instructions to report to the Regional Police Headquarters in Kyebi on Monday, September 15, 2025, to assist with ongoing investigations.
A statement from the Eastern South Police Command assured the public of a “fair and transparent investigation” and pledged to provide timely updates on the case.
The happened after some disturbances during the Akwatia by-election held on September 2, when some men alleged to be associates of Minority Leader Afenyo-Markin reportedly removed posters from a vehicle parked in front of the Akwatia NDC constituency office.
The act sparked confusion, after which Alhaji Abdul Wahab, during a media interview, allegedly issued the death threats against the three political leaders.
