The Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMA) has urged assembly members to speed up their efforts due to disturbing footage of numerous flooding incidents happening in the country, especially in the Greater Accra Region.
According to them, Ghana should prepare for heavy rainfall in the coming weeks.
In response to the GMA’s plea, the president of the Ghana Association of Assembly Members, Mr Frank Nelson Ackah, has expressed deep concern over the situation, blaming the department responsible for issuing building permits.
He continued that all physical development permits come from the Assembly, yet the assembly often see projects completed in areas unfit for construction, even when a permit is visibly displayed.
Mr Ackah pointed to internal lapses and political interference and proposed that area and zonal councils be strengthened to improve oversight and transparency.
The Ghana Meteorological Agency is advising Ghanaians living in flood-prone areas to prepare for potential flooding and urges every citizen to be careful and stay safe.
