The Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) in charge of Operations, Mr. Iddisah Yeboah Seidu, has led a high-level inspection team to Salaga earlier this morning as part of preparations towards the establishment of a DVLA office in Salaga, capital of the East Gonja Municipality.
The visit follows a formal request submitted by the Member of Parliament for Salaga-South Constituency, Hon. Hajia Zuwera Mohammed Ibrahimah, seeking the establishment of a DVLA office to serve residents of the East Gonja Municipality and surrounding districts, including North East Gonja, Kpandai and Pru East.

They were joined by key stakeholders from the traditional authority, the Municipal Assembly and the office of the Member of Parliament. They included: Lepowura Abdul-Karim Alaja, representing the Kpembewura, Chief Abu Ibrahim, Deputy Coordinating Director, East Gonja Municipal Assembly, Mr. Mustapha Nafiu, Director of Special Projects and DRIP coordinator, Mr. Saaka Sulemana, Research Assistant to the MP and Madam Haruna Suwad, deputy Constituency Women’s Organizer, representing the MP. Other support staff present included the Director of the Business Advisory Resource Center, Mr. Abdul Kudus Yunus, School Feeding Desk Officer, Alhaji Kramo, the Municipal Budget Officer and Mr. Abdul-Rahim Bayason.
The team after inspecting the temporary office earmarked for the district DVLA operations expressed satisfaction with the facility. Mr. Yaboah noted that the team had been dispatched by the DVLA CEO and the Minister for Transport to assess the readiness of the proposed office space.He assured the traditional authorities and the MP’s representatives that a comprehensive report would be submitted to the DVLA CEO and the Minister for further consideration.
Speaking on behalf of the Kpembewura, Lepowura Abdul-Karim Alaja expressed gratitude to the DVLA leadership for responding to the community’s long-standing request. He emphasized that establishing a DVLA office in Salaga is a priority for the Kpembewura and appealed to the DVLA CEO, the Minister for Transport, the MP, and the Executive Secretary to the President, Dr. Callistus Mahama, to ensure the initiative is actualized.
According to him, the new office will significantly reduce the burden on vehicle and motorcycle users who currently travel long distances to Tamale, Bole or Yendi for DVLA services. He added that the entire Kpembe Traditional Area fully supports the establishment of the office.
The Deputy Coordinating Director of the East Gonja Municipal Assembly, Mr. Abu Ibrahim, welcomed the DVLA’s move and assured the delegation of the Assembly’s commitment to guaranteeing the safety of DVLA staff and property once operations begin. He reiterated that maintaining security remains a top priority for the Assembly.
Speaking on behalf of the MP, the Director of Special Projects, Mr. Mustapha Nafiu, thanked the DVLA leadership for their prompt response to the MP’s request. He reaffirmed the MP’s dedication to collaborating with all relevant stakeholders including the Transport Ministry, DVLA, the Municipal Assembly, and the Traditional Authority to ensure that the project comes to fruition.
The inspection marks a significant step toward bringing essential DVLA services closer to the people of Salaga and nearby districts. Stakeholders are optimistic that the establishment of the new office will enhance service delivery, improve convenience for residents and strengthen local development.
