A 31-year-old farmer, Nayilimol Amos, has been crowned the Overall Best Farmer for the New Juaben South Municipality at this year’s Farmers’ Day celebration.
Nayilimol was once municipal Best Youth farmer few years ago.
His prize package included a tricycle, spraying machines, cutlasses, agrochemicals, and other farm inputs meant to expand and strengthen his farming activities.
He was honoured alongside 14 other awardees in various categories recognized for their hard work in various agricultural sector.
Amos Nayilimol, however, used the platform to urge government to improve rural infrastructure to support farmers operating in difficult terrains, particularly communities on the Obuortabiri mountains where he cultivates.
He appealed for the rehabilitation of deplorable roads leading to the farming communities, along with the provision of essential amenities such as safe drinking water, a CHPS compound, and a school, noting that these would motivate young people to remain in farming and reduce rural–urban migration.
The Municipal Chief Executive for New Juaben South Ransford Owusu Boakye assured the concerns will be addressed.
He reaffirmed that ongoing policy interventions—including the Feed Ghana Programme, Akoko Nkitinkitin poultry initiative, and investments under the Agriculture for Economic Transformation Agenda (AETA)—are expected to revive agricultural output in the municipality.
Municipal Agriculture Officer Tharzia Numako Akwetey encouraged more youth and women to venture into agribusiness, describing agriculture as a sector rich with opportunities for innovation, value addition, and income generation.
