The Eastern Regional Minister, Hon. Rita Awatey, has extended her heartfelt condolences to the immediate family of the late former Defence Minister, Dr. Omane Boamah, and to the general public. She made the remarks on Bryt FM’s Adekyee Mu Nsem morning show with host Kwamina Sam Binney.
Hon. Awatey noted that from today until Sunday, the Eastern Region will be hosting the entire nation—not in celebration, but in a solemn moment of bidding farewell to a distinguished statesman. She emphasized that the mood across the country is one of deep sorrow as Ghanaians unite to honor his memory.
When asked whether the public is allowed to attend the funeral and what preparations have been made at the national level, the Regional Minister explained that the late Defence Minister left a remarkable legacy and served as a role model to many.

She further clarified that although the government has already performed its official funeral rites, it is now time for the family to hold their own. Due to Dr. Omane Boamah’s prominence, the region is expecting the presence of kings, queens, and a presidential entourage in Koforidua this weekend.
Hon. Awatey cautioned that the town will be extremely busy, considering the high number of vehicles and dignitaries expected, and she urged residents to exercise patience and cooperation.
She concluded with an appeal for responsible behavior throughout the weekend and during the festive season, especially advising drivers: “If you drink, don’t drive.
