Farmers in about 22 Communities in Upper West Akyem Municipality of the Eastern Region defied restriction on the public gathering by demonstrating over the destruction of their crops.
Peasant farmers in communities such as Asuosu, Alafia, Kalape, Adiembra No. 1, and 2, Danso among others all participated in the demonstration.
The aggrieved farmers accused some chiefs and District Chief Executive of the area for colluding by selling their 1,500-acre farmlands to a developer who has graded and destroyed their crops.
According to the farmers, there was no consultation either compensation plan for the affected farmers.
Speaking to Bryt FM News Correspondent Eric Owusu Amponsah, some of the angry farmers alleged that the developer deployed land guards armed to the teeth to unleash terror on them.
The farmers say the destruction of the farms which is their source of livelihoods will afflict hunger and hardship of them and their families hence appealed to the government to come to their aid.
Meanwhile, Chief of Asuasu, Osiahene Obiri Mantey warned that residents would be forced to clash land guards deployed to the area unleashing terror on residents should the police fail to drive them away.
