The Founder and General Overseer of Action Chapel International, Archbishop Nicholas Duncan Williams has advised men not to get a western style wedding if they can’t prove they have at least GH 100,000 in their bank accounts, igniting widespread public debate.
He explained that churches should discourage western style wedding unless the man can demonstrate genuine financial stability, setting Gh100,000 as the minimum benchmark.
“If the man cannot prove that he has at least GH¢100,000 in his bank account, he shouldn’t have a wedding,” he empathized.
The archbishop stated that many couples start their marriages already weighed down by debt due to extravagant wedding ceremonies they can’t afford.
“You don’t want to begin your marriage with debt” he said, adding that most couples receive calls from vendors demanding payment even when they are on their honeymoon.
